I was surprised today when I created a new account. Gmail now has a new feature to lessen the invasion of spammers in the Gmail universe. They now require SMS verification for each new account sign up. I still don’t know what are the new policies now, but I guess, each user will not have a limited e-mail address per mobile phone number. I haven’t tried to sign up for a new one using the same phone number. But I think, the same number will still work.
I still have to try using the same number to sign up for a Gmail account. As of now, they require you to validate your account and enter a 6-digit code that will be sent to your mobile number after you entered it. Your mobile phone will work with or without country code. You can also open a new Gmail account by inviting yourself to create a new one (in case you don’t have a mobile phone number).
To come to an end, this is a great move for Google to avoid spammers and abusive Gmail users.
Kudos to Google and Gmail team for this improvement.
